Item generation chances
This page lists all rarity tiers specifying the odds to obtain items during walks and after a dog returns home in the original Nintendogs games. All the data presented on this page was extracted directly from the game's code. Depending on the relationship between the player and their dog, rarer items will be available. Rarer items are more likely to appear when picking up a hidden gift. There is also an unused rarity tier that makes rarer items slightly more likely to appear though not as much as hidden gifts do.
Some items are only obtainable in specific Nintendogs versions. Red items are exclusive to Dachshund & Friends and Best Friends, blue items are exclusive to Chihuahua & Friends and Dalmatian & Friends, green items are exclusive to Labrador & Friends. Further, three items won't be available until the player has scored at least 20,000 trainer points. These are the Jack Russell Book, Rhinestone Collar and Pearl Necklace. If the game attempts to generate one of these items despite not having enough points, the player will receive a Stick instead.
